Academic Support
About
Monarch is committed to supporting the growth of all students. Our school uses a preventative approach called MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports). MTSS is a framework designed to help all students succeed academically, behaviorally, and socially.
MTSS is based on the idea that every student learns differently and has unique strengths and challenges. Our goal is to provide the right level of support for each student based on their individual needs.
MTSS works on three tiers:
-
Universal: All students receive high-quality instruction in the regular classroom.
-
Targeted: Students who need extra support receive targeted interventions. This support may come from teachers, school counselors and psychologists.
-
Intensive: Students with more significant needs receive intensive interventions. This support may include administration, school counselors, psychologists, our community liaison, engagement specialist, academic success teacher and nurse, wellness center counselor, social worker and our mental health advocate.
MTSS is about providing the necessary support to help every child succeed.
Monarch's MTSS Coordinator
Hi! My name is Dana Loew and I am the MTSS Coordinator and Academic Support Coach here at Monarch. My role at Monarch is to help identify students who are struggling academically- whether it be due to attendance, their social-emotional needs and/or a student who is struggling in the classroom with content material or assignment and homework completion. As a team we meet each week and determine what support/s identified students need in order to be successful. This team includes administration, counselors, our psychologist, nurse, community liaison, engagement specialist and mental health advocates. When a student is identified as needing additional academic support in their content area classes, they may be added to one of my advisory classes. These classes are designed to assist students in monitoring assignment completion, which are due and which may be missing. I also provide student a space to work on assignments and submit them to their teachers. Finally, I help students advocate for themselves with their classroom teachers and monitor their attendance to ensure they are in their classes to maximize their learning potential. Ultimately, I am here to support my students in maintaining their academic responsibilities and be successful as they do so.
